What the exhibitors said

  • Mr Eric Bentsil Quaye

Ministry of Food and Agriculture MOFA Ghana

It is my great pleasure to be here today with you for the official opening of the 7th agrofood & plastprintpack West Africa 2022. I bring you warm regards from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) and special greetings from our Honourable Minister Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.

MOFA is the lead agency of the Government of Ghana responsible for developing and executing policies and strategies for the agriculture sector within the context of a coordinated national socio-economic growth and development agenda.

The vision of the Ministry is a modernized agriculture culminating in a structurally transformed economy and evident in food security, employment opportunities and reduced poverty.

Today's event which has gathered international exhibitors, industry leaders, investors, experts, academia and journalists is to exhibit and discuss the latest technologies needed to improve the entire value chain.

On behalf of the Honourable Minister for Food and Agriculture, I would like to thank the organizers for putting this great event together. We are looking forward to facilitating fruitful meetings over the next three days between Ghanaian and international companies.

  • Ms Daniela d`Orlandi

Italian Ambassador to Ghana and Togo

We are proud to bring to this important exhibition a large and qualified delegation of 20 Italian manufacturers of machinery and products for the plastic, the printing, the packaging and the agribusiness industries. We are sure their presence in Accra will allow Ghanaian companies to learn more about the possibilities Italy can offer to upgrade local production, allowing it, on the one hand, to better respond to the increasingly sophisticated domestic demand, and, on the other hand, to address foreign markets with more added value products.

The Italian Pavilion at plastprintpack and agrofood West Africa represents a major step, that we are taking along with the Italian industrial Association UCIMA, AMAPLAST, ACIMGA and AssoFoodTech. Let me also underline that the Italian Pavillion is organized under the auspices of the City of Rome that is candidate to host the 2030 World Exposition. We look forward to meeting you at our Pavilion to discuss the opportunities that the Ghanaian markets offers to us all!

  • Mr Tjalling Wiarda

General Manager - GNBCC Ghana Netherlands Business & Culture Council

We as GNBCC are happy to be involved in the 7th edition of this trade show where we are present with our own Dutch pavilion. We want to thank the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands for financially supporting the pavilion.

The Ghanaian and West African agrofood market

Agricultural technology: The West African market for agricultural technology becomes ever more important. According to the German Engineering Federation VDMA, West African imports of such machinery reach around €200 million annually.

Food & beverage technology: From €496 million in 2015 to €694 million in 2021, West Africa’s imports of food & beverage technology show an annual increase of 5.8% between 2015 and 2021. Ghana's food tec imports even increased by 17% annually, from €59 million in 2017 to €112 million in 2021. (VDMA)

Food & beverage ingredients: With already well over 420 million inhabitants (2022), which according to the World Bank will rise to 800 million by 2050, West Africa is a huge food market. Expenditure in the F&B sector is growing steadily, and F&B production is by far the largest segment of the West African processing industry. Accordingly, the demand for food and beverage ingredients is rising continuously.

Food trade with West Africa: According to the World Trade Organization WTO, West African food imports have reached around US$19 billion and exports US$21 billion in 2021. Thus, food trade with West Africa is a US$40 billion business.
